This is my chosen example of an online editorial design that demonstrates the effective use of conceptual design within my chosen topic of football. This design uses conceptional design through the club’s badge which is positioned behind the player, as we can see the badge’s design includes a crown which is conceptually taken and implemented onto the player who is the main subject in this design. Through this conceptual design, the designer made the player represent the club effectively as the crown is added to the player, despite the fact the badge has a different type of crown compared to the one added on the player it still represents the strong bond between the club and the player. The club ‘Real Madrid’ which is portrayed in this design is known to be prestigious which is represented well in this design through the use of colour and conceptual design. The use of golden colour resembles effectively with the theme of this design as the golden colour is associated with a crown which is a key aspect in this conceptional design. The player portrayed in this design is seen as a crucial player of the team and could be argued as one of the leaders which is demonstrated in the conceptual design of him portrayed as a king. The prestigious theme of this design is also portrayed well through the use of shades, as we can see the right side of the design is dark whilst the left side is projecting the golden light. The positioning of the badge is presented in a way where the crown on the badge is visible very clearly compared to the rest of the badge, this is important as it indicates the conceptual design effectively as we could clearly see the bond between the crown on the badge and a crown on the player’s head.

I have decided to redesign this graphic that doesn’t employ conceptual design, the graphic piece I am redesigning is a Real Madrid player who goes by the name of ‘Benzema’ who has recently won a prestigious footballing award called the ‘Balon Dor’ in which the player is holding the award in his hand that can be clearly seen in the graphic. Instantly, I knew there was potential with employing a conceptional design into this graphic using the objects featured in the graphic as I could see variety of concepts that can be implemented to create a conceptional design piece. The balon dor award is crafted into a concept of a football layered in gold, therefore I decided to implement conceptional design into this graphic by including an image of Benzema from a game and replacing a real football that he is holding with the part of a balon dor award that is implemented as a football. This conceptional design represents two ideas of the award and a football together as well as an image of the player featured from a game which also demonstrates that the player earned this prestigious award with his performances on the pitch, to portray my point even further I’ve included a football pitch and the stadium within this design, I have blurred the stadium in the background so that the main focus is on the player. Just like in the original design, I ensured that I didn’t use too many colours and kept it tidy with just black and yellow. The yellow in particular is important in this graphic as the colour is associated with gold and emphasises the glory and achievement of this player even more apart from the award he has won. Finally, to add a spark to my redesign I’ve added yellow smoke by adding an effect that enhances the design graphic.
